Tools & Resources for Schools

Kids walkingAcross the country and in our own backyard, teachers, school administrators, parent associations, and community partners are working together to help our children walk more. To school, the library, the community center, or just to a friend’s house to play—walking to these destinations encourages fitness and helps children develop the skills to be responsible and aware of their surroundings. But, making it possible for kids to walk wherever they need to go safely will take community-wide support.

In 2004 and 2006, one out of every four Clark County students in the eighth, tenth, and twelfth grades reported being overweight or at risk for overweight. (source – Clark County Public Health Department). Children across the nation experience serious health issues such as diabetes at an earlier age. Adding too few physically active adult role models to too many rides to school, too much screen time, and too few safe places to play outdoors subtract from our kids’ health, well-being, and good development. Making walking routine for kids is important for a healthy life.
