Tools & Resources for Neighborhoods
Neighborhoods designed to be walkable are generally safer and promote a sense of community—you meet your neighbors and get to know your surroundings. Many people say they would walk more if they felt safer and if their destinations were close enough to walk to. Making and keeping communities walkable requires time and resources because sidewalks and crosswalks, schools, housing, and retail development have to be designed, built, and maintained to be walkable. Your neighborhood can ask local government, public agencies, and private businesses to do their part to make our community more walkable.
