Walking: All Reasons All Seasons is a public awareness and education campaign. The campaign is directed toward people who live and work in Clark County . The goal of the campaign is to increase access to walking for fun, health, or transportation. Campaign strategies are to:
- Educate citizens and policy makers on the value of walkable communities
- Equip citizens and policy makers with tools to make our community more walkable
- Engage community members in collaborative efforts that make our community more walkable
Walkable communities are proven to promote the health and well being of the community members. Communities that are walkable are designed to have destinations such as jobs, housing, schools, retail, recreation, and more located within a reasonable walking distance. Benefits include:
- Increasing rates of physical activity
- Health benefits such as weight management and reducing risk for chronic diseases such
as heart disease and diabetes - Reducing the number of car trips helps save money and creates less impact on the environment
- Opportunities for family and community interaction that often lead to an increase in quality
of life, including a reduction in crime rates

Walking: All Reasons All Seasons is part of the Steps to a Healthier Clark County initiative. "Steps" is managed locally by Community Choices, a non-profit organization working for a healthier Clark County . Learn more about Community Choices at www.clarkcommunitychoices.org
"Steps" is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Many local partners are involved with the "Steps" initiative which calls for increasing access to physical activity, healthy foods, and smokefree environments.
No. The Walking: All Reasons All Seasons campaign does not include walking events or walking programs. However, we are eager to partner with those who do coordinate walking events and walking programs. People who participate in walking events and walking programs are often interested in advocating to make our community more walkable. The tools on our website will show them how to be involved.
We provide education and resources to help fulfill the goals of the campaign. Services and resources include:
- Presentations
- Consulting services to groups interested in working on walkability issues
- A website featuring tools and information for specific audiences and links to many
credible walkability-related resources - Printed material such as postcard size walkability tips cards. Some materials
may be customized

- Be a citizen advocate. Talk to your elected officials about walkability
- Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper about walkability
- Take the messages and tools to your workplace, faith community, school, neighborhood

your own life and in the lives of others.
