About Us

Walking: All Reasons All Seasons is made possible through the Steps to a Healthier Clark County (Steps) initiative. Steps is funded though a five-year federal grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Locally, Steps is managed by Community Choices. In 2003, Community Choices convened local partners representing schools, healthcare, worksites, public agencies, and the community to plan and implement the Steps initiative in Clark County. The overall goal of Steps is to reduce the rates of obesity and diabetes, and to reduce community exposure to secondhand smoke.

To reduce rates of overweight, obesity, and diabetes Steps focuses on long-term change that recognizes that people need the support of the community to be healthy. People are more likely to walk if there are safe, well-lighted sidewalks or paths, and choose healthy foods if markets are in their neighborhood and if menus, vending machines and concessions include healthy options. Communities with these features are developed over time through the collaboration of many partners. Ongoing education and policy changes create a healthy environment for both individuals and the community.

Walking: All Reasons All Seasons was developed to raise awareness amongst Clark County residents about the value of walkable communities. The campaign features tools and information for residents to use in living a walkable lifestyle and working for a walkable community.
